Blastoise: Blastoise!

[Mikan Island, 11:49am]

Narrator: Meanwhile, we find Alvin's brother Simon, along with friends Anna and Marion, on Mikan Island, home of a Pokémon Gym. Well, at least, we will.

[Simon, Marion, and Anna appear on the beach]

Narrator: Ah, there they are.

Simon: Well, here we are-- Mikan Island.

Marion: What a pretty beach.

Anna: [looks at the shells on the beach] And look at all those shells. [picks up a conch shell] Hey, check this out.

[She blows the conch as if it were a horn]

Simon: [laughs] Gotta love the conch.

Marion: Guys, don't you think we should look around the island for a piece of the Xenon Crystal?

Anna: She's right, Simon. Where should we look first?

Simon: Let's try the Mikan Island gym. Maybe the Gym Leader knows where the crystal is.

Anna: [extracts her iPad and opens up a map of Mikan Island] The gym should be right up north. Let's go.

[They head north until they finally approach the Mikan Island Pokémon Gym]

Anna: There it is!

Marion: I've never seen a Pokémon Gym up close before.

Simon: None of us have. But I've challenged a Gym Leader once before.

Anna: Who?

Simon: [extracts a Cascade Badge from his pocket] Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader. When I first got my Squirtle, I challenged her to my very first Pokémon battle. Her Starmie was tough, but Squirtle proved himself too much for Starmie to handle. And he didn't even know Hydro Pump yet.

Anna: When did he learn that move?

Simon: Just after he evolved into Wartortle. Anyway, after I beat Misty, she gave me this Cascade Badge as proof. That's how Gym Battles are done.

Marion: Neat. But why don't you ever enter leagues?

Simon: I'm not ready for that. But Alvin might be. Unfortunately, all the islands in which he has to find subcrystals have no gyms.

Anna: That's a shame.

[A feminine shriek is heard coming from behind the gym]

Simon: Sounds like trouble.

Anna: C'mon!

[They scurry behind the gym and approach a pier; there, Gym Leader Cissy watches in horror as her brother Senta is nearly drowning in the sea; Simon, Anna, and Marion run up to her]


Simon: What's wrong, miss? We heard you screaming.

Cissy: My brother and I were fishing, and he caught a huge bite that pulled him into the sea! I can't swim, and I left all my Pokéballs inside!

Senta: Cissy, help!

[He suddenly submerges as a school of Sharpedo surge toward him]

Anna: [gasps] Sharpedo attack!

Simon: You two transform and help the boy. [extracts a Pokéball] I'll handle those Sharpedo with my own! [tosses the ball] Go, Sharpedo!

[Out of the ball comes his own Sharpedo]

Sharpedo: Sharpedo!

Simon: Keep those other Sharpedo occupied!

Anna and Marion: Kaleido Power!

[They get suited up; Marion takes on mermaid form and dives into the sea, grabs Senta, and swims with him to the surface]

Marion: Don't worry. I've got you.

Senta: [coughs] Thanks!

Anna: [holds her baton out to them] Grab ahold!

[Marion and Senta grab the baton; Anna helps them back onto the pier]

Simon's Sharpedo: Shar! Sharpedo! Shar-Shar-Shar!

[The Sharpedo school are intimidated]

Simon: Sharpedo, use Scary Face!

[His Sharpedo gives the other Sharpedo a very scary look, frightening them; the Sharpedo school swim away in terror; Simon's Sharpedo laughs]

Simon: Way to go, Sharpedo! [recalls Sharpedo] Return!

[Anna and Marion revert to normal; Cissy hugs Senta]

Cissy: Senta, are you all right?

Senta: I'm fine, Cissy.

Cissy: I'm so sorry I couldn't--

Senta: Hey, don't worry about it.

Cissy: Well, from now on, I'm keeping my Pokéballs with me at all times in case of emergency. [to Simon, Anna, and Marion] You three-- Thank you for saving my little brother.

Marion: No problem, miss.

Cissy: Please, call me Cissy. And this is my brother Senta.

Simon: Simon.

Marion: Marion.

Anna: Anna.

Senta: The way you guys used teamwork to save me from the Sharpedo-- Very clever.

Anna: Thanks. But the real hero is Simon, for his quick thinking.

Simon: It's really nothing.

Cissy: How can I ever thank you?

Simon: Do you know the Mikan Gym Leader?

Cissy: Know her? I am the Mikan Gym Leader.

Simon: You?!

Cissy: Yep. But tell me something-- Are you here for a Gym Battle?

Simon: Actually, we've been sent here on a quest.

Senta: What kinda quest?

Simon: A quest to find 8 pieces of the Xenon Crystal.

Cissy: Xenon Crystal? Senta, you still have that weird shiny object you found last night?

Senta: It's in my room. I'll get it.

[He runs into the gym]

Anna: You mean you found something like it?

Cissy: Just last night before bedtime. My brother found it buried beneath one of the coconut trees, but we had no idea what it was, so I let him use it as a lamp. At least it saves a little on the electric bill.

[Senta comes out of the gym with a Xenon subcrystal in hand]

Senta: [hands his sister the crystal] Here it is, Cissy.

Cissy: Thanks.

Simon: That's the crystal!

Cissy: Tell me, Simon, what do you and your friends need this thing for?

Simon: It's very hard to explain, but the Spider Riders need it. They lost their powers, and only the Xenon Crystal can restore them.

Cissy: The Spider Riders? I've heard of those knights in shining armor who use giant spiders as their noble steeds.

[Suddenly, the crystal starts glowing]

Oracle's voice: Before Simon can achieve this crystal, he must prove himself worthy.

Cissy: Who said that?!

Oracle: Do not give him this crystal just yet. He must earn it.

Cissy: Well, whoever you are, I guess you're right.

Senta: Cis, who are you talking to?

Cissy: Whoever spoke in my head has a point. I can't just give you this crystal. You did help save my brother, but apparently, it's not enough. So, Simon, you up for a challenge?

Simon: You're on!

[Cut to the Mikan Gym; Simon and Cissy face each other]

Cissy: Here's how it works around here. Three rounds. The first to win two rounds wins the match. And if you win, Simon, the crystal is yours.

Simon: Agreed.

Cissy: However, in this gym, we don't usually have our Pokémon battle each other. Senta?

Senta: Yes, ma'am! [pushes a button on his remote]

[A long compartment opens, and up come two long tables of empty aluminum cans]

Cissy: This is the Water Gun challenge. Each of us chooses a Pokémon who can use Water Gun, and they compete against each other to knock down the cans off of their respective tables. The Pokémon who knocks down the most cans in 60 seconds wins. [tosses a Pokéball] Seadra, I choose you!

[Out of the ball comes a Seadra]


Seadra: Dra!

Simon: A perfect opportunity to test out my newest Pokémon. [tosses a Pokéball] Go, Qwilfish!

[Out of the ball comes a Qwilfish]


Qwilfish: Qwilfish!

Simon: [looks up Qwilfish] Impressive, isn't it?

Dextette: Qwilfish, the Balloon Pokémon. Qwilfish sucks in water, inflating itself. This Pokémon uses the pressure of the water it swallowed to shoot toxic quills all at once from all over its body.

Cissy: Not bad. Senta, set the clock.

Senta: [sets the clock] Roger!

[The clock is set at 60 seconds]

Marion: Go get 'em, Simon!

Anna: You "can" do it!

[RIMSHOT!]

[Senta moans]

Simon: Bad punning, good rooting, Anna.

Senta: The clock starts when the first Water Gun is fired. On your marks, get set, GO!

Simon: Qwilfish, Water Gun!

Cissy: Seadra, Water Gun!

[The clock starts; both Pokémon start firing Water Gun at the cans repeatedly, knocking them over; Anna and Marion cheer Simon on]

Simon: Keep at it, buddy! Rapid fire Water Gun!

[Qwilfish fires Water Gun rapidly at the cans on its table]

Cissy: You, too, Seadra!

[Seadra does the same thing]

Marion: These two are really into it!

Anna: Let's go, Qwilfish! [whistles]

Senta: Come on, Seadra!

[Both Pokémon continue firing Water Gun at the cans to the 15-second mark]

Simon: Hurry, Qwilfish! 13 seconds!

Qwilfish: Qwilfish!

Cissy: Seadra, full power!

[The two Pokémon continue firing]

All: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...!

[BUZZER!!] (time's up!)

Senta: STOP!

[Qwilfish and Seadra stop]

Cissy: Now to determine the winner. Senta?

[Senta inspects the cans that are still remaining on the tables]

Senta: Cissy and Seadra have 9 cans left on their table. But with only 8 cans left on their table, the winners of the first round are Simon and Qwilfish!

Simon: Yes! We did it, Qwilfish!

Qwilfish: Qwilfish!

Cissy: Bravo, Simon. You're one step closer to that crystal. Now it's on to the second round, in which we'll try moving targets. Hit it, Senta!

[Senta pushes a button on his remote; the wall on the opposite side of the cans opens up]

Senta: The player who can shatter the most flying plates in 30 seconds wins. [sets the clock]

Cissy: Fire!

[Senta pushes another button, launching flying plates outside]

Senta: GO!

Simon and Cissy: Water Gun!

[Qwilfish and Seadra fire at the plates; the clock starts; each Water Gun shatters a separate plate; over the next minute, Marion tallies up the shattered plates and who shattered them in a note pad; Anna records it all with her iPhone]

Anna: I gotta archive this in case of a possible dead heat.

Marion: I'm already keeping track of how many plates they've smashed. So far, it's all even. [looks up and writes more down] Oh! They just keep on coming!

[At the 5-second mark, one final plate is launched]

Marion: Here comes the last one.

Simon and Cissy: Fire!

[Seadra and Qwilfish each fire at the last plate; it shatters]

[BUZZER!!] (time's up)

Senta: TIME!

Cissy: Okay, Marion. I see you've been keeping score. What's the score?

Marion: Qwilfish: 28, Seadra: 28. But I couldn't count the last one, because it looked like both Water Guns hit it at once.

Anna: [stops recording] Let's take a look at the video.

[A bit later, she shows everyone the video of the finish, then zooms in on the final plate and plays it in slow motion; Qwilfish's Water Gun is close, but Seadra's smashes it just a fraction of a second before Qwilfish's]

Anna: By only a fraction of a second, Seadra wins the second round.

Simon: You were close, Qwilfish. You can take a rest now.

Qwilfish: Qwil.

[Simon recalls it]

Cissy: [recalls Seadra] Seadra, return!

Simon: So, how are we gonna break this tie?

Cissy: Why don't you follow me to the beach, and I'll show you?

[Cut to the beach; everyone is gathered; there is a buoy with a flag floating in the sea 50 yards from the shore]

Cissy: The third round is the Pokémon wave ride. Each of us chooses a Water-type Pokémon, and we ride them down the sea, around that flag, and back. The first one back to the finish line wins the race and the match. [tosses a Pokéball] Blastoise, I choose you!

[Out of the ball comes her Blastoise]

Blastoise: Blastoise!

Cissy: Pick your poison, Simon.

Simon: Who better to match your Blastoise than this one? [tosses a Pokéball] Go, Blastoise!

[Out of the ball comes his own Blastoise]


Simon's Blastoise: Blastoise!

Senta: He's got one, too?! Cissy, is that legal?

Cissy: Sure. My opponents are entitled to use even the same Pokémon I'm using.

Marion: But how are we gonna tell 'em apart?

Simon: [extracts a Blastoisinite from his backpack] Simple. [straps the stone to Blastoise's forehead] I'll use this. [puts on a special cuff w/a Key Stone embedded in it] And I've got this for good luck.

Anna: Isn't that...?

Marion: ...one of those Mega Stones we heard about?

CIssy: Not bad. But even though there's no rule against a Pokémon holding or using an item, even in a wave ride, I don't think my Blastoise will have any trouble beating yours. [climbs on her Blastoise's back] Now, there's one more rule I should tell you about: In the wave ride, all trainers must stand on their Pokémon. So you'd better have good balance.

Simon: [climbs on his Blastoise's back] Piece of cake.

Senta: Okay, guys. Into position.

[Both Blastoise get into position at the starting line on a part of the sea closest to shore]

Senta: [points a pop gun pistol up into the air] Once I fire this pistol, the race will start. Remember, any trainer who falls off must wait 5 seconds before they and their Pokémon can continue on. Challenger, ready?!

Simon: Ready!

Senta: Cissy, ready?!

Cissy: Ready!

Senta: Blastoise, ready?!

Both Blastoise: Blastoise!

Senta: 3, 2, 1,...! [fires the pistol]

[Both Blastoise start, with Simon and Cissy stand on them as if they are surfing]

Anna: [records the race w/her iPhone] Go, Simon!

Marion: Do it for the Spider Riders!

Senta: Go, Cissy!

Simon: Blastoise, let's try swimming to the inside!

Simon's Blastoise: Blast!

[They swim further to the inside, but Cissy's Blastoise bumps them aside]

Simon: [almost loses his balance] Whoa! That was close. You're asking for it! Blastoise, bump 'em!

[Both Blastoise repeatedly bump into each other]

Cissy: I like your guts, Simon, but don't underestimate the combined strength of myself and my Blastoise!

[They are close to the flag when suddenly, a huge wave approaches]

Anna: Oh, my God! There's a tidal wave coming!

Marion: Get outta there!

[Simon and Cissy look up at the wave and gasp]

Simon: Blastoise, freeze that wave with Blizzard!

[His Blastoise fires Blizzard at the wave, freezing most of it, but the rest of the wave suddenly crashes through it and onto Cissy and her Blastoise, sinking them into the sea]

Simon: Oh, no! Cissy!

[He dives underwater and swims toward Cissy; he grabs her just as Simon's Blastoise dives down and helps Cissy's back to the surface]

Simon: [in his mind; holds Cissy's hand while trying to swim back to the surface] Hang on, Cissy. I'll get you out of this somehow. I'm coming, Blastoise!

[He is close to the surface, when suddenly, the Key Stone in his Mega Cuff reacts; on the surface, Simon's Blastoise's Mega Stone glows, causing him to glow]

Marion: Look, Anna! Simon's Blastoise!

Anna: It looks like it's...!

Senta: No way!

[Simon's Blastoise takes on his Mega stage]


Simon's Blastoise: Blastoise!

[He dives back down and brings Simon and Cissy back up to the surface with the help of his shell; Simon gasps for air and coughs]

Simon: Did my cuff glow? [looks down at his Blastoise] Hey! Blastoise, did you just Mega-Evolve?!

[His Blastoise nods]

Simon: All right! Nice job, Blastoise!

[He suddenly notices the unconscious Cissy]

Simon: Cissy!

[He gives her chest compressions, then mouth-to-mouth resuscitation; Cissy opens her eyes and gasps heavily for air, then coughs up sea water]

Cissy: Simon?

Simon: Are you okay, Cissy?

Cissy: Yeah. You saved me. Thank you.

Simon: No problem. But I wouldn't have made it myself if it weren't for my Blastoise.

[Cissy looks down at Mega Blastoise in amazement]

Cissy: It Mega-Evolved?

Simon: I don't know why, but it did. But right now, we've got a race to finish.

Cissy: Right.

[She climbs onto her Blastoise's back; both Blastoise start at the flag buoy and face the shore]

Simon and Cissy: Let's go!

[Both Blastoise swim swiftly towards the shore]

Cissy: Blastoise, aim your Ice Beam straight to the shore!

Cissy's Blastoise: Blastoise!

[It fires Ice Beam at the sea, creating an icy trail to the shore; it jumps on it and slides down]

Simon: Two can play at that game! Blastoise, Blizzard!

[Mega Blastoise fires Blizzard at the sea, creating another icy trail to the shore; he jumps on it and slides down]

Simon: Very wise.

Cissy: I learned a lot from Ash when he battled me.

Simon: Well, now we're even. All that's left is crossing that finish line!

Cissy: Let's end this fair and square.

[Both turn to face the shore]

Marion: Both Blastoise are neck and neck!

Anna: This is gonna be close!

Senta: C'mon, Cissy!

[Both Blastoise cross the finish line at the same time and land ashore]

Anna: It's a photo finish!

[Simon and Cissy slide off their Blastoise and walk up to the others]

Cissy: Did you get all that?

Anna: [stops recording] Yep. Let's check out an instant replay.

[She plays the video starting at the finish in slow motion; Mega Blastoise's cannon has crossed the finish line just before either Blastoise can finish; Anna stops the video just at that frame]

Senta: And the winners are... Simon and Mega Blastoise by a nose!

[Marion and Anna cheer]

Simon: YES!

Simon's Blastoise: Blastoise!

[He fires a victory Hydro Pump in the air]

Cissy: [pats her Blastoise on the back] I'm proud of you, Blastoise. You did your best.

Cissy's Blastoise: Blastoise.

[Cissy recalls it; Mega Blastoise reverts to normal]

Simon: We did it, Blastoise!

[He and Blastoise embrace]

Blastoise: Blastoise!

Cissy: Congratulations, Simon. That was a great battle. You chose your Pokémon well, and you broke the tie. Senta, the crystal.

Senta: [hands Simon the Xenon subcrystal] Here you go, buddy.

Simon: Thanks.

Cissy: It wasn't just your victory here that got you the crystal. It was also your heroism. First you saved my brother, and then you saved me. I owe you a great deal. One more thing, Simon. You've also earned this.

[She hands Simon a Coral Eye Badge]

Simon: A badge?

Cissy: Proof that you won your match, and to remember me by. It's the Coral Eye Badge. Like all other badges in the Orange Island League, this one looks like a shell.

Simon: It's incredible. Thanks, Cissy! I just won the Coral Eye Badge!

Blastoise: Blastoise!

Cissy: And there's more to your reward for saving me.

[She gives Simon a kiss on the forehead]

Senta: Underneath her tough exterior, Cissy's got a heart of gold.

Cissy: When next you see Ash, give him my best regards.

Simon: You got it.

[A bit later, Simon, Anna, and Marion ride Blastoise on the sea as they wave goodbye to Cissy and Senta]

Cissy: Good luck in finding the other crystals, guys!

Senta: Thanks for stopping by!

Simon: See ya, Cissy! Bye, Senta!

Marion and Anna: Take care!

[Simon's iPhone rings]

Simon: [picks up] Hello?

Alvin: Hey, Simon. Just calling to let you know that I found one of the Xenon subcrystals on Tangelo Island.

Simon: Alvin, I was just about to call you. I took on the Mikan Island Gym Leader and won a badge!

Alvin: That's nice, but did you find another subcrystal?

Simon: Yep. That's my whole reason for challenging her in the first place.

Alvin: Great job, bro! Two down, six to go!

Simon: I just hope the others are having just as much luck.

Narrator: And so, with two Xenon subcrystals found, our heroes are one step closer to restoring the Spider Riders' powers. But will they find the others? Stay tuned as the journey continues!

[Meanwhile, at Prescott's base, Prescott is furious at Savage, Vega, and Rawlings]

Prescott: I can't believe you three! Vega and Rawlings, you told me that demon would bring me a subcrystal! But instead, he ended up dead!

Vega: I didn't expect Alvin to fight back without his powers!

Rawlings: Neither did I!

Prescott: Where's your common sense?! He's a Pokémon trainer! And you, Savage!

Savage: Sir!

Prescott: Your tidal wave spell didn't kill Simon Seville during his wave ride. All it did was lead him to rescue the Mikan Island Gym Leader and his Blastoise to Mega-Evolve.

Savage: My apologies, sir. It won't happen again.

Prescott: It better not, 'cause if this mission fails, I'll make doubly sure it never happens again, but on my terms. [clenches his fists]


[Clips from the next side-fic are shown]

May: Theodore, you must have a death wish if you're gonna climb that mountain all the way to the top.

Theodore: I gotta take this chance, for all our sakes.

Mateo: When Grandpa was young, he saw a Crystal Onix.

Alvin: Crystal Onix?

Marissa: It's what inspired my brother to make these glass sculptures of Pokémon that almost look alive..
