Side-Fic 343: Waning Wizard

Rated TV-14 (DLSV)

Muse: Hey, everyone! We're back for another show!

Sylphy: But the same rules apply. Lights on in the room, and don't sit too close to the screen.

Narrator: In New York City's fight against crime, the dedicated detectives who pursue the most vicious criminals are members of an elite unit known as ACME Crime Net.

[132 Madison Street, Monday, October 7th, 9:11am]

[Shido's group has breakfast with the Fairies of Elementario]

Muse: I can't tell you how much we appreciate you letting us stay over, Shido.

Shido: Hey, you girls deserve a little vacation.

Salama: Who knew you'd be such a good cook? [picks up her smartphone; posts a Tweet] #YummyGrilledFish

Kobory: It's almost as if you've got Wolfgang Puck's blood in you.

Sylphy: Whoever's blood he's got, this grilled fish is awesome sauce!

[Tohka comes downstairs from the attic with a case]

Tohka: Hey, guys! Look what I found in the attic.

[She opens the case, revealing an old Panasonic M50 camcorder]

Muse: Is that an old camcorder?

Salama: Let me see that.

[She takes a look at the camera]

Salama: Hmm. Panasonic M50. Truly an antique.

Kurumi: I remember those. Too bad they went obsolete once all cameras became digital.

Origami: [takes the camera] It almost looks like it's brand-new.

[She pushes the power button, turning the camera on; she looks into the viewfinder]

Origami: It still works! Although, the battery could use some charging.

[She turns off the camera, then sets the battery to charge]

Tohka: You know, I've been thinking, ACME Crime Net's Clean-Up Crew is short-handed today, so I volunteered to help them pick up litter in Inwood Hill Park.

Shido: And you want us to help you?

Muse: We'd be glad to.

Tohka: Not just that. I was thinking about using the camcorder to film our progress, like an old documentary or something.

Kotori: That would do us good for a video club project. But we can use a DSLR camera or the cameras on our phones.

Tohka: But wouldn't it be fun to get a little nostalgic feel? It'll make us look like we're in the 80s and 90s. Plus, we can always convert from a VHS tape to a video file on a computer.

Sylphy: Well, I can't argue with you there. Ladies?

[The other fairies nod; the rest of Shido's group looks at each other, then nods]

Shido: All right. I guess it wouldn't hurt. Besides, what's wrong with using multiple cameras, anyways?

Tohka: Yay!

[Inwood Hill Park, 10:33am]

[WABC's Eyewitness News reporter Kemberly Richardson reports on Shido's group and the fairies preparing to clean up the park]

Richardson: Today, a group of youths from Japan team up with Amagi Brilliant Park's Fairies of Elementario to clean up Inwood Hill Park.

[She turns to Shido and Muse]

Shido: That's right, Kemberly. It's part of my sisters' club project. You see, some bad apples just don't seem to care about our community.

Muse: There's all sorts of vandalism-- Graffiti, trash, damaged signs, et cetera. And we've all volunteered to clean it up.

Richardson: You know, rumor has it that the famous Spirit Soldiers might even show up and help.

Shido: I wouldn't know about that. Some of us haven't even met 'em yet.

[Richardson turns to the camera]

Richardson: And cut! [turns to the others] That was great, guys. Thanks. We'll be back in a while to record your progress.

[She and the crew exit]

Muse: Thank you, Kemberly. Okay, you guys. Let's get started!

[The gang begins cleaning up, breaking into song]

Muse and Sylphy: Slam-dunk your junk.
Muse: Lemme hear you say...
Muse and Sylphy: Slam-dunk your junk.
Sylphy: Here we go!
Muse and Sylphy: Slam-dunk your junk.

All the mess in the park,

Bad apples all around
leave a mess for us to tidy up.
From big to small,
from tiny to tall,
when we throw it away,
we're gonna dunk it like a basketball!

Kotori: My big bro is the man
to put the garbage in the trash can.
The game has just begun.
Even working brings us lots of fun.
Origami: Ryouko puts recyclables
right where they're supposed to go.
Cleaning can be cool
if we dunk it like a donut, yo!

Muse and Sylphy: Slam-dunk your junk.
Muse: Lemme hear you say...

Kobory and Salama: Everybody!

All four fairies: Go! Go! Go!
Go, Shido! Go, Shido!
Go! Go! Go!

Muse and Sylphy: Slam-dunk your junk.
Salama: Lemme hear you say...
Muse and Sylphy: Slam-dunk your junk.
Kobory: Here we go!
All: SLAM IT!

[Later, Ai, Mai, and Mii approach; they notice Tohka filming with the old camcorder]

Mai: Oh, look, guys. Tohka's got a new camera.

Ai: New camera? More like an old new camera.

Mii: Lame.

Mai: [snaps her fingers] Or so you say. I've got a plan! I overheard the news reporter talking about a rumor about the Spirit Soldiers coming to the park today. We're gonna follow Tohka, and then, when the Spirit Soldiers show up, we're gonna jump in the picture, pull off their helmets, and we'll finally have their true identities captured on tape.

Ai: Ai, you're a genius!

Mii: So smart, it's lame! [squeals]

Mai: Now, remember, we have to keep a lopro. We can't let anyone find out. Not even Eyewitness News.

[Her two friends nod; they head into the park]

[Neo-DEM Industries HQ, 10:40am]

[JB turns to her pill bug Demonoid Pillbot]

JB: One of the Spirit Soldiers' more disgusting traits is the fact that they want to keep the community clean. You, Pillbot, are among my most hideous Demonoids. [hands Pillbot a metallic jar] One my one, I'd like you to capture them in this demonic jar.

Pillbot: This jar looks pretty familiar.

JB: It's built from the remains of Gourdroid's gourd. But this one's more powerful. It can actually drain the captives' powers.

Pillbot: I'll send down some Bandersnatch as decoys.

JB: Oh, but don't just catch the Spirit Soldiers. I want this one, too.

[She shows Pillbot a recent photograph of Mana]

Pillbot: Oh, the traitor. Got it! In fact, I'll catch her first!

[Later, back at Inwood Hill Park, filming continues as everyone is nearly done; Ai, Mai, and Mii watch from behind a nearby tree]

Tohka: So, Mana, when this is over, what's gonna be your biggest reward?

Mana: Only that I'm glad to have helped out the community.

[Suddenly, an army of Bandersnatch appears 10 feet behind her]

Tohka: [drops her camera] Bandersnatch!

Kotori: [stops recording] Bandersnatch!

Ai, Mai, and Mii: BANDERSNATCH!

[Shido turns to the news crew]

Shido: Better get outta here fast! We'll take it from here!

[The news crew rushes out; Ai and her group follow suit]

Shido: Come on, girls! Let's take these guys out!

[He and his group fight the Bandersnatch over the next minute; afterwards, a few units have Mana cornered; Pillbot appears before her, carrying his jar]

Mana: Brother! It's a trap!

Pillbot: Time's up, Takamiya! There's no escaping Pillbot!

Shido: Sephira, GO!

[He and the Spirits get suited up and join Mana in fighting the Bandersnatch and Pillbot, unaware that Tohka's camcorder is still rolling]

Mana: [whacks a few units in the emblems with her shinai] You think you can drain my powers? Get real.

[The units she struck get vaporized]

Pillbot: They can't, but I can. [opens the lid of his jar] Now your power will be put to the service of Isaac Westcott!

[Mana gets sucked into the jar; Pillbot shuts the lid; the Spirit Soldiers, after beating the remaining units, notice]

Shido: Mana!

Pillbot: This is just the beginning, Spirit Soldiers. I'll be back for the rest of you shortly! [vanishes]

Tohka: We gotta get to the Fraxinus right now.

[She and the others teleport out; Tohka's camcorder is still rolling; Ai, Mai, and Mii return to the scene]

Ai: Well, the Bandersnatch are gone.

Mai: [picks up Tohka's camera] Hey, look! Tohka left her camera behind!

Mii: [points at the camera's red light still flashing] Look!

Ai: [notices; gasps] She forgot to stop taping! That must mean all the action was caught on tape by accident.

Mai: [stops recording] Yeah, so?

Ai: So, the Spirit Soldiers must've shown up. Let's get this back to the warehouse fast.

[They head out]

[Fraxinus EX, 11:00am]

[The Spirit Soldiers, helmets off, report to the crew]

Shido: Elliot, we've gotta do something to get Mana back from that Demonoid.

Elliot: Crew, access all data available on Pillbot. See if you can find any solutions.

Crew: Yes, sir!

[They set to work analyzing Pillbot]

Kawagoe: Computers indicate that Pillbot is merely a robotic Armadillidiidae.

Tohka: Arma-what, Kawagoe?

Origami: Armadillidiiae. A family of woodlice. They have the ability to roll into a ball. They're more commonly known as pill bugs.

Tohka: Oh, like those armadillos we saw at the zoos.

Minowa: Exactly. This Demonoid in particular has the ability to curl into a ball to protect himself and even attack his enemies like a bowling ball.

Kotori: But have you been able to locate Mana?

Nakatsugawa: Negative, commander. But we'll keep looking.

[Cut to a dimension in Pillbot's jar; Mana is chained by the arms to a rock slab; an image of Westcott appears before her]

Mana: Westcott! So you're back in human form.

Westcott: Welcome, my old friend. Glad you could drop by. In no time flat, you'll end up a powerless shell. But worry not, for your brother and your friends will be joining you soon. Look at it this way. At least you won't die alone.

Mana: You're not gonna get away with this, Westcott! My brother won't let you! None of the Spirit Soldiers will!

Westcott: Yes, the Spirit Soldiers. Since they have a huge stance against vandalism, I'll command Pillbot to spread graffiti on one of Inwood Hill Park's precious spots. That's when the real fun begins.

[Mana growls]

[Back at the Fraxinus, the alarm blares]

MARIA: Spirit Soldiers, it's Pillbot! He's back at Inwood Hill Park!

[The bridge monitor opens a channel to the park, where Pillbot is vandalizing a salt marsh with graffiti]

Karen: He must be trying to lure you out into the open. I'd advise using caution. He may capture you just like he did Mana.

Shido: Back to action, girls!

[The Spirit Soldiers don their helmets and teleport back to the park, unaware that the Fairies of Elementario are watching]

Origami: That's far enough, Pillbot!

Pillbot: [stops vandalizing] Told ya I'd be back!

Shido: Where's my sister?!

Pillbot: [points at Spirit Soldier Red] Right there beside you. Where else?

Kotori: He means Mana, you bastard!

Pillbot: Oh, right. Well, where she is now, the rest of you will be joining her!

[He curls up into a ball and rolls toward the Spirit Soldiers, striking them like bowling pins, then leaps into the air and soars toward them]

Pillbot: And here's the pitch!

Shido: [punches Pillbot back] Don't think so!

[Pillbot falls to the ground near the river and out of his ball form]

Pillbot: [gets back on his feet] No more games! It's time you donated your powers to the service of... [notices his reflection in the mirror] Oh! What a handsome guy am I! I haven't seen a reflection this beautiful since JB manufactured me! [grabs his jar; turns to the Spirit Soldiers] Okay, Spirit Soldiers. Back to business. Who wants to be the first to join Takamiya in my jar? Oh, never mind. This jar has the power to take you all at once!

[He points his jar at the Spirit Soldiers; Shido pushes Kotori out of the way as he and the other 10 get sucked in]

Pillbot: [laughs] That's 12 down and one to go!

Kotori: [growls] Let 'em go at once!

Pillbot: If you want 'em back, Spirit Soldier Red, meet me at Tuckahoe Quarry! [vanishes]

Kotori: Damn it! There's gotta be a way to stop that bug.

[The fairies approach her]

Muse: Spirit Soldier Red, are you all right?

Kotori: Yeah, but what are you guys doing here?

Kobory: We came to stop Pillbot from vandalizing, but he was too much for us.

Salama: Thank God for you and the others.

Sylphy: Sorry he got them, though. But I think we know a way we can beat him.

Kotori: How?

Muse: We saw Pillbot staring at his reflection in the river, admiring his dashing good looks.

Kotori: You mean he's a narcissist?

Muse: Yep. We're gonna try and find something to exploit his vanity.

Sylphy: In the meantime, you get to quarry and keep him busy.

Kotori: Okay. Thanks, fairies. Back to action! [teleports out]

Muse: C'mon, guys. Let's get to work.

[Tuckahoe Quarry, 11:20am]

[Kotori looks around the quarry for Pillbot]

Kotori: All right, you cowardly bucket-of-bolts bug! WHERE ARE YOU?!

[Pillbot appears before her]

Pillbot: So you decided to show up! Big mistake!

Kotori: Tell me where my brother and the others are!

Pillbot: Oh, yeah, how rude of me. [points at the cliff] There they are!

[On the cliff, Mana and the other Spirit Soldiers are chained by the arms to large rock slabs]

Shido: Kotori!

Kotori: Big Brother! Are you all right?!

Shido: We're okay, but I'm not sure about Mana.

Origami: The dimension in Pillbot's jar drained our powers, Mana's in particular.

Mana: Don't worry about me. Just get that guy!

Miku: But you gotta hurry!

[Kotori clenches her fists, then turns to Pillbot]

Pillbot: The power transfer will soon be over. It's just you and me, Red.

Kotori: I may be standing before you alone, but my team's still with me in spirit! And now you're going down!

[She and Pillbot get into a fight, trading blows and shots with one another; after a while, Pillbot knocks Kotori to the ground]

Kotori: I'm not finished yet, Pillbot! Spirit Lance!

[Her lance appears in her hands and ignites]

Kotori: Allow me to turn up the heat! Spirit Lance, Flame Swing!

[She strikes Pillbot with her lance, knocking him back; growling, Pillbot grabs his jar]

Pillbot: You're such a pest! It's time you joined your team! [points his jar at Kotori] Hold still!

[Suddenly, he gets struck by a burst of flames, small rock slabs, and a shower of water before being blown backwards by a gust of wind; the Fairies of Elementario fly into the scene]

Pillbot: Where'd they come from?!

Muse: That's far enough, Pillbot! If you wanna beat the Spirit Soldiers, you'll have to beat us first! Element of water! Muse!

Sylphy: Element of wind! Sylphy!

Kobory: Element of earth! Kobory!

Salama: Element of fire! Salama!

All four fairies: We are the Fairies of Elementario!

[They pose gracefully]

Kotori: Glad you girls could show up!

Pillbot: Cheaters!

[Sylphy hands Kotori a special red shield]

Sylphy: Here. We found some old junk, put it together, and made this for you.

Salama: We had a little help from this friend of yours.

Kobory: Her name was... [mutters] Miller, Milton, Mueller, Milly,... [snaps her fingers] ...Mildred!

Kotori: [in her mind] Good ol' Mildred. [aloud] Thanks, guys, but what's it do? I mean, besides protect me and all?

[Muse whispers into her ear]

Kotori: Oh! You're geniuses! This is sure to do the trick! Thanks again!

Muse: You keep him busy. We'll free your team.

Kotori: All righty.

[She turns to Pillbot; the fairies fly to the cliff]

Sylphy: Good luck, Red!

Kotori: Now for you, Pillbot!

[She jumps up and strikes Pillbot with her shield]

Pillbot: You think that shoddy, little shield is gonna protect you, Red?! You're wrong! It's no match for Pillbot!

[He curls up into a ball and rolls toward Kotori and strikes her; he uncurls and prepares to strike with his claws]

Kotori: Gotta get my shield into position!

[She positions her shield in front of her]

Kotori: Here we go!

[She pushes a button on the handle; the shield opens up, revealing a mirror; Pillbot stops in his tracks and gazes at his reflection]

Pillbot: Ooh! There I am again! I just can't believe how handsome I look! [chuckles]

Kotori: Gotcha. [fires a blast from her Spirit Pistol at Pillbot] Sayonara, sucker!

[Pillbot screams as he gets blasted backwards]

[Back on the cliff, Salama carefully melts the chains that bind the rest of the gang with her flames]

Salama: You're free, Spirit Soldiers.

Shido: Thanks, fairies.

Muse: Hey, we owed you.

[Mana slumps to the ground]

Kobory: Mana, are you okay?

Mana: Yeah. Just a little exhausted.

Muse: The rest of you help your friend.

Sylphy: We'll keep an eye on Mana.

Yoshino: Right. Let's go, guys!

[She and the other Spirit Soldiers jump off the cliff and join Kotori]

Kotori: Glad you guys are okay!

Natsumi: Where'd you get that shield?

[Kotori opens the shield, revealing the mirror]

Kurumi: I think it's a mirror, Natsumi.

Nia: Or is it both of them in one package?

Kotori: Both. The fairies and Mildred built it out of old parts. See, the fairies discovered Pillbot's weakness: His vanity.

Yuzuru: Assumption. So they built the mirror shield to exploit his vanity.

Kaguya: And that's how you were able to give him Hell.

Kotori: That's about the size of it.

Mukuro: Anyway, let's get this job done.

Pillbot: [clenches his fists] I've had it with you Spirit Soldiers!

Shido, Origami, Yoshino, Kotori, Miku, and Tohka: [combine their weapons] Sephira Bazooka!

Nia, Kurumi, Mukuro, Natsumi, Kaguya, and Yuzuru: [combine their weapons] Sephira Buster!

Pillbot: Uh-oh! [curls up into a ball]

Spirit Soldiers: FIRE!

[Their combined weapons fire upon Pillbot, engulfing him in an explosion; one of his chips flies out of the explosion]

Kotori: [detaches her lance] Spirit Lance, Flame Swing!

[Her lance ignites as she slices the chip in half, destroying it]

Kotori: One down and one to go.

[Pillbot reassembles and gets back on his feet]

Pillbot: You think your puny weapons will stop me?! [curls into a ball again and rolls toward the Spirit Soldiers] Try again!

[He strikes the Spirit Soldiers one by one]

Kotori: Reiryoku Armor, energize!

[She gets equipped with the Reiryoku Armor and the Reiryoku Cannon]

Kotori: [kicks Pillbot back] Take this!

[Pillbot gets sent flying and uncurls; Kotori fires a blast from her pistol at Pillbot, hitting him in the antennae]

Pillbot: Hey, watch the antennae, Red!

[He fires lightning bolts from his antennae at Kotori, who reflects them right back with her armor]

Kotori: [strikes Pillbot in the antennae with her lance] Take that!

Pillbot: [screams] I said watch the antennae! [growls; charges at Kotori] Since you don't wanna play fair, I'm just gonna hafta finish you off! [grabs his jar and points it at Kotori] Say goodbye, Red!

[The other Spirit Soldiers fire their pistols at the jar, vaporizing it]

Pillbot: Hey! My jar! Where's my jar?!

Kotori: [as her cannon charges] As if you'll ever know. Reiryoku Cannon, FIRE!!

[The cannon fires a massive burst of spiritual energy at Pillbot, hitting him hard; Pillbot screams, falls to the ground, and an explosion is shown; Pillbot's remaining chip flies out in pieces]

Kotori: Termination complete! Sephira Squadron...!

All 12: Spirit Soldiers!

[132 Madison Street, 12:21pm]

[Shido's group (back to normal) and the fairies have a celebratory pizza lunch]

Kotori: You know, Muse, the Spirit Soldiers are very grateful to you and the other fairies for saving their bacon.

Muse: Thanks. And you weren't-- Excuse me. Spirit Soldier Red wasn't...

[Shido's group stares at her]

Sylphy: Too late, Muse. Gotta tell 'em.

Muse: [sighs] All right. We've known about your little secret since that first fight earlier today.

[Flashback to said fight when the Spirit Soldiers fought Pillbot in the park before Mana was captured; the fairies have seen it all from behind a tree, including the Spirit Soldiers' transformation]

[Back to the present]

Muse: I swear, we won't tell anyone you're really the Spirit Soldiers.

Kobory: We're big fans of yours, so we swear.

Salama: We will never betray you.

Sylphy: Fairy's honor.

Kotori: Thank you.

[She and Muse shake hands]

Shido: Mana, you feeling okay?

Mana: Well, my powers are getting pretty weak. But I'll be fine. Could I get another pepperoni?

Shido: [hands her a slice] There's plenty to go around.

Mana: Thanks.

Tohka: Hey, guys, I gotta get back to the park. I dropped my camera when the Bandersnatch attacked.

[Ai's group enters with Tohka's camera]

Ai: No need! [puts the camera on the table] Got your camera right here, Tohka.

Tohka: Oh, thanks. Wait, what were you three doing in the park? Wait, don't answer that. Still trying to find the Spirit Soldiers, huh?

Mai: Our search for their secret identities may be over. [ejects the tape from the camera] See, this tape was in Tohka's camera when the Bandersnatch attacked.

Ai: While the camera was still rolling, the Spirit Soldiers showed up to clear out the Bandersnatch and that bug Demonoid. And we've got the proof right here on tape. I know it's outdated and all, but it should be enough. VCR?

Muse: [points at the entertainment center] Well, there's one over there. [takes the tape] But I wouldn't recommend watching that tape just yet. [hands the tape to Sylphy] Sylph, take this to the AV room, please. Have it labeled. And make it a good one.

Sylphy: No prob.

[She takes the tape to the AV room and shuts the door]

Ai: What's the big idea?

Kurumi: Chill out, Ai. She knows what she's doing.

[Inside the AV room, Sylphy runs the videocassette through a degausser, then places a label on another cassette of the same model and writes down: "Spirit Soldiers evidence"; she stores the now-blank tape in the shelf with other blank cassettes, then comes out of the room with the labeled tape]

Sylphy: Here you go, guys. All labeled and ready.

Ai: Oh. Thanks, Sylphy. Beautiful. [turns to her group] All right, girls! Let's make history!

[She hands Mii the tape; Mii turns on the TV and VCR, inserts the tape, rewinds, then presses "play"; the tape shows an old recording of The Joker's Wild (1972)]

Ai: Hey! This is a game show!

Mai: Where are the Spirit Soldiers?!

[Mii raises a hand]

Mii: Hold on, guys. I really love this episode.

[Shido and Tohka turn to the fairies]

Tohka: Wow. How'd you do that?

Muse: Always remember, Tohka, the hand is quicker than the eye.

[She and Tohka hi-five]

Shido: Especially when you swap tapes with Sylphy.

Kobory: What'd you do with the real tape?

Sylphy: I erased it. I ran it through Simon's tape degausser, thus destroying the evidence.

Salama: [snaps a photo of Sylphy and Tweets it on her phone] #GeniusSylphy! [posts the Tweet] You really saved the Spirit Soldiers' bacon today. Twice!

Sylphy: Like I said, fairy's honor.

Muse: Hey, check out Ai and Mai's expression.

[Ai and Mai look up at the ceiling, dumbfounded, while Mii continues watching the program]

Ai: We could've been famous.

Mai: We could've been rich.

Mii: Guys! Could you please hold it down?! I'm trying to watch the show.

[Ai and Mai facepalm]

[JFK International Airport, 5:40pm]

[Shido stops his car in the white zone; the fairies come out with their duffel bags and passports]

Shido: I really wish you girls could stay.

Muse: Me, too, Shido, but we're needed back at Amagi Brilliant Park.

Sylphy: Besides, who knows what Kanie and Isuzu have been up to?

Kobory: And what about Princess Latifa?

Salama: She must be worried sick.

Shido: Just remember to give 'em my best regards. And let me know when you land.

Muse: We will. And give our best to your group, too. [blows a kiss] Bye, Shido.

[The fairies wave goodbye as Shido drives off; they giggle, then head into the airport, chattering about what they had been through]

Shido: Next time: Live.
